lachatteferoce:

you know you’re diabetic when your reaction to blood suddenly dripping down your leg from under a bandaid isn’t horror but rather “oh hey I can test my blood sugar without poking myself!”

My Life.

Report: Season 19 of ‘Cupcake Wars’ to feature judges from the Diabetes Community. A Food Network Spokesperson added, “If anyone knows quality cupcakes, it’s people with diabetes. They don’t mess around, they’ll tell it like it is, and demand the best from our competitors. They don’t want to waste insulin on amateur-hour desserts.”

We take our desserts (and our carbs) seriously.

Being a Type 2 Diabetic, I have to really be careful about not only how many carbs I eat, but also what kind of carbs I eat…There really is a big difference! Remember, you need carbs to live. It’s just best to eat the ones that do the most to keep you healthy & fit. -WWQ

When someone refers to you as “the diabetic”

It’s almost my birthday!!!!

I know, I know, I know…it’s been a realllllyyyyy long time. At least in my head it has. I’ve just gotten past the three weeks of hell (a new paper, exam, etc due every day) and now it’s just a couple days to my birthday! My 21st birthday!!!!

For those of you not in the US, that means I am finally of the legal drinking age.

After believing for so long that if I took one sip of alcohol, my liver would shrivel up and die due to my diabetes meds - a lie I’m sure my mother convinced my first four diabetes doctors to tell me - I’ve found that even when presented with alcohol, I’m not much of a big drinker. I like a good glass of red wine rather than shots.

But…it’s my 21st birthday and I’m sure my friends are going to try and get me tripping-over-my-own-feet drunk. And that won’t be too hard because I’m sure I’m a lightweight.

So I guess what I’m asking is: any advice for a type 2 diabetic -on oral medication (januvia and metformin), not taking insulin - on getting drunk? I know I need to check my blood sugar pretty constantly, but other than that, is there anything else I should look out for?

Thanks!
